A major producer of Sodium Sulphate in North Africa was experiencing heavy operating problems, requesting lengthy plant stoppage every 4 hours. This was due to continuous scaling in the Crystalliser Brine Cooler tubes, which required thorough cleaning and rinsing.

Welders promptly identified the source of the problem as erosion of the soft Copper-Nickel tubes, resulting in accumulation of salt crystals and leading to corrosion of the tube wall.

Welders recommended the use of Titanium tubes of suitable grade with a smooth finish to prevent the occurrence of both phenomenons. The heat exchanger supplied by Welders not only brought dramatic operational improvements, boosted the plant production and efficiency, but also increased the whole company profitability to such an extent that the end-user promptly procured a new Mother Brine Cooler in the same material.
