A European Waste Management Company had to replace its aging rotating heat exchanger, whose function is to dry residues.
They approached Welders N.V. with a view to select the most adequate material and to maximise cost efficiency while confirming to the strictest environment standards.
Using the existing drive system meant that original outside dimensions had to be precisely complied with.
In close consultation with the end-user and tube mills, Welders engineers could recommend material specifications, enhancing resistance to both corrosion and heat, in function of the respective components location.
The new heat exchanger, weighing some 80 tonnes, and featuring several grades of Austenitic and Ferritic Austenitic Stainless Steel was delivered on time; its performance met the expectations and allowed the end-user to retain its operating license. It could be retrofitted without any adjustment, the equipment 3.6m diameter staying within the strict 1mm clearance.
